Alert New Feederie – 212 Steakhouse in Midtown East
New Feederie Alert: 212 Steakhouse – Kobe Beef & Exquisite Wines
A new feederie has opened and it’s not too shabby…
212 Steakhouse, a “modern” steakhouse, has opened on 53rd in between 1st and 2nd Avenue. It features Kobe Beef, Wagyu, and Japanese Wagyu for a VERY AFFORDABLE price. I’ve had wagyu cuts at 3 star Michelin restaurants, and let me tell you, 212 is serving them up for about $125 less!
This place is settled on a nice quiet street, off of the bustling 2nd Avenue Happy Hour Bar District (close to Sutton Place, Session House, etc.)… The décor is modern exquisite (as I like to call it)… Check out the pics below.
FEEDING EXPERIENCE:
I ordered the Japanese Wagyu Striploin for $36 and the fingerling potatoes and my friend had a filet mignon for $18. I would say the Japanese Wagyu was very tasty, I don’t know about $40 for 4 oz. tasty though. Next time, I would order the Filet Mignon, which was prepared perfectly and is $18 for 8 oz. My friend loved it! The fingerling potatoes were amazing!! You could taste robust rosemary and other seasonings and I could not stop ordering them!!!! The sides are begin enough to split between two people, which they should be for $12.
DRINKING EXPERIENCE:
The wine menu is very extensive and large, featuring a lot of expensive red wines from the USA, France, and Italy. Glasses range from $12 to $20+ and the bottles range from $45 (only 3-5 in this price range) to $300+. The martini and liquor menu goes on for days and is on the slightly more expensive side. If you are going for a bottle of wine, ask the manager and tell him what price range you are looking for. The menu is just too big to even try and make a decision. We told him that we wanted a full bodied, bold, dry red wine for the $50 range and he definitely delivered! The bottle was a Flora Springs Napa Valley Cab Sav for $45. It was amazing and I would definitely recommend it.
FEEDER HIGHLIGHTS:
PROS: The place is quiet and cute and a wonderful addition to Midtown East. It’s nice to have a restaurant that isn’t a dive bar as well. Perfect for date nights and work dinners/lunches.
PROS: The Kobe beef/Wagyu is “at discounts” (which is something they state on their menu) and is a pretty good bargain for what you get. These cuts of meat can cost up to $100s and you’ll get away for under $50 here.
CONS: The place was pretty dead when we were there. Since it is on a side street and is pricier, I think it will have a hard time attracting enough business to stay open for long.
CONS: It’s awesome to get a good steak at a bargain, but if everywhere else charges so much for this meat… then what’s the catch? Just makes me wonder… but who cares, really???
